"A Note to Breeders"

We look for excellent conformation in our breeding jennets. Our goal, as breeders, is to produce donkeys that will exhibit show winning halter conformation. We do not sacrifice a fluid way of going, since it is critical in the area of performance and is an equal part of their conformation. We do place a high importance on temperament. A donkey with a good disposition is easier to train and will go a long way in life as a treasured and loving family pet. It is one of the best things about miniature donkeys and we look for this quality in our breeding jennets as well as our jacks.

Our jacks are very small, and most of our jennets are in the 30" to 33" range. We have all colors including Red, Dark Brown, Black, Gray and Spotted.

What does "Correct" mean to us? It means a donkey has excellent conformation according to the National Miniature Donkey Association (NMDA) breed standard. We have spent much time and effort selecting and breeding top quality animals in the industry, as reflected by our show record (see AWARDS page). Showing is one way to learn the difference between "good" and "best", and we have always, and always will breed for the best quality available in the world of miniature donkeys. We have sold many donkeys who have gone on to become Champions on other farms, and many have left our farm as Champions.

We are so grateful for having found such joy in owning donkeys we are ready for the next chapter and that is to give back to them! We are taking a break from breeding indefinately to open our farm as a foster facility to a great rescue run by kind souls with a mission. Visit www.safeharborsanctuary.org to see all of the animals up for adoption. Fostering can bring such reward! Please read the foster guidelines on their site and give it some thought. Open a space in your heart, there is room I promise!

"Note"

Li'l Angels will not be breeding for 2016. We are putting all efforts into enjoying the beloved donkeys we have and taking time to follow up on donkeys we have sold and where they are now. We are responsible for what we put on this earth, the donkey population needs a break and needs our help to find forever homes. Please join our efforts and reward the donkeys.

Cream Tangerine or “Tangy” is a very feminine and perfectly refined little jennet. She has so many attributes from her sire Red October, including fabulous legs and a beautiful neck set. Tangy is very willing to train and loves attention just like her sister, Ruby. Her flashy red color and grace make her a standout in the pasture. We are resting her mother, Maggie, and hoping Tangy will follow in her mother’s hoof steps in her breeding career. Tangy has been bred to Indy for a promising first foal in 2013.

Update! Tangy foaled the sweetest and smallest foal of 2013, a dark beauty my dear friend Karan has named "Takoda". She is just perfect, way to go Tangy! As her grand dam, Maggie, reaches retirement we are struggling to let little Takoda go. Takoda has been sold.

Paulette is a very special jennet for many reasons. First, she is absolutely gorgeous. She has won many Halter Championships, and she is also an outstanding performance jennet. She was also one of my first foal crop, and she is a Jazzy daughter. That makes her a half sister to Sparkle, Jazzlynn and Hannah.

Ozark Jazzy Jamm was our first herd sire, and he was an outstanding producer. He is also the sire to Li'l Angels Shining Spark, and Li'l Angels Axelle, both multiple Halter Champions, and Axelle is a multiple Performance Champion.

Paulette is an outstanding example of his produce, and one of our most treasured jennets. We showed Paulette until she was five, and decided to breed her. She never did take, and we began to think she never would. Finally, she did conceive, and we were all broken hearted when her first foal was presented "transverse". We rushed her to A&M, and they were able to remove the foal, but, of course, it didn't survive. Paulette was devastated, and so were we. Such a long time to wait, for such a great disappointment.

We were getting ready for the Texas Shoot Out in '08, and since she was open, we decided to take her. I didn't want to breed her back right away, even though the vets said she was not damaged. I just wanted to give her a little time. She looked wonderful, and I thought getting ready for a show would take her mind off her baby. She responded to the activity beautifully, and it seemed to be the best medicine for her. To our delight, she won 1st Place 5 & Over Jennets, and Reserve Champion in Halter. That was amazing in itself, but she also went on to show in performance and won the Reserve Champion Open Versatility. What a girl! The trail photo above was taken at that show, and she was shown by my friend, Rose Jones, in the green jacket.

The best part of the story is that we bred her a month after the show, and she conceived right away. Since then she has had her first live foal, and we are thrilled for her. You can certainly see how much she loves him. His name is Sterling, and he is sired by our Li'l Angels Full Moon. If she never has another foal, it was all worth it to see how much she loves this one. I may never take him away from her!
